About
Currently, I am a Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Rutgers University in Camden. I received my Ph.D from the political science department at the University of Oklahoma. My research areas are public administration and public policy, focusing on social equity, nonprofits, race, emergency management, and local government. My research analyzes the public perception of social equity and the influence of representation. I am building my research portfolio to discuss improving equity and preparedness following a disaster. In addition, I research how local governments and nonprofits work to improve the living conditions of impoverished communities across America. My most recent research publications are Politics, Groups, and Identities and the book- Local Government Administration in Small Town America.
I am from Southeast Texas (Beaumont, Texas, specifically), an area that has experienced numerous disasters, and I have seen firsthand the politics of disaster recovery. The rise in poverty in rural areas has always made me want to participate in helping my community, so I have dedicated my work life to the nonprofit sector. My experience working in the field established the foundation for my current work and research.
